The background is a fundamental part of my drawing and it is important to me that the surfaces and environments change, reflecting the activities of the space. Depending on the location, the viewer has to interact with the architecture and any obstacles to see the drawing with correct proportions.

I am intrigued by the way the line warps and bends but this is not the primary motive. When drawings have accurate proportions, it is easy to forget all the considerations that have been taken to make it so, from perspective, scale, form, dimension, etc, which are seen more clearly as a result of the distortions. Viewing the expected in a different way makes you realise how much we rely on what we already know, the things we become so easily familiar with, objects and spaces to which we do not give a second glance.
